Man dies after Sunbury altercation

Homicide Squad detectives are investigating following the death of a man involved in an altercation in Sunbury last Saturday.

Police attended a Timmins Street address following a report of a physical dispute between two men about 11.30pm on 9 September.

A 58-year-old Sunbury man was arrested and initially conveyed to Broadmeadows police station.

He was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment as he became unresponsive, however the man passed away in hospital yesterday.

A 27-year-old Sunbury man was also arrested shortly after the incident and he had sustained minor facial injuries.

He was interviewed by police before being released pending further enquiries.

The parties involved were known to each other.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and the man’s death.

As per standard practice, officers from Professional Standard Command will have oversight of the investigation as the man had been in police custody.
