Man dies, two injured after crash, NSW

A man has died, and two other men are seriously injured, after a crash at Lucas Heights this afternoon.

Shortly before 2.30pm today (Saturday 5 January 2019), emergency services were called to New Illawarra Road, near Heathcote Road, after reports three vehicles had collided.

The male driver of a 4WD, a man believed to be in his 50s, died at the scene.

The male driver of a utility, aged in his 20s, suffered abdominal injuries. He was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition. His passenger, also aged in his 20s, was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics for suspected abdominal injuries. He was taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment.

The male driver of a second 4WD, and sole occupant, believed to be aged in his 20s, was uninjured. He was taken to Sutherland Hospital for mandatory testing.

Officers from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command, with the assistance from the Crash Investigation Unit will investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

New Illawarra Road is closed in both directions.

Inquiries at the scene are continuing with traffic diversions in place to the Princes Highway.
