Man drives at police before crashing through roller door

A man has crashed through an underground carpark roller door and driven off from police after he was found loitering near a stolen vehicle in Caulfield overnight.

Police were called to the Wilks Street residential complex following calls a man and woman were acting suspiciously about 10.45pm.

When police arrived and approached the pair the man attempted to escape and jumped in a vehicle.

He reversed and crashed into a pole causing police to jump for their safety before driving through the carpark roller door and out onto Wilks Road.

The 20-year-old woman was arrested at the scene and has been interviewed in relation to theft of motor car and drug offences. It is expected she will be charged on summons.

A crime scene was set up and it is expected Kingston Crime Investigation Unit detectives will revisit the scene this morning.

Investigators have several enquiries to make in relation to the man involved and are appealing for assistance from the public if they see the man’s car, a 2019 Hyundai Tuscan wagon with registration plate 1PZ 5PD, to call police.

The four police involved were not seriously injured.

Anyone who sights the car is urged to call Triple Zero (000) or with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or log onto www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
