Homicide Squad detectives have extradited a man from Thailand and charged him over his alleged involvement in the 2014 murder of Abbotsford man, Bradley Dillon.
About 5.40pm on Monday 11 August 2014, police attached to Leichardt Local Area Command were called to Lords Road at Leichhardt after witnesses reported hearing gunshots.
On arrival, officers located an injured man who had collapsed onto the roadway.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to revive the man, who had suffered a number of gunshot wounds; however, he died at the scene.
He has since been formally identified as 25-year-old Bradley Dillon.
Initial inquiries into Mr Dillon’s murder were undertaken by local police before the matter was referred to detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad under Strike Force Ester.
In 2014, a then 23-year-old man was charged in relation to the matter; he has since been sentenced.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for a 33-year-old man, who has been remanded in prison in Thailand.
Strike Force Ester detectives recently travelled to Thailand as a part of formal extradition proceedings.
The man has since been transferred into the custody of the NSW Police Force and escorted by detectives on a flight from Bangkok, which landed at Sydney International Airport about 6am today (Saturday 23 July 2022).
He was taken to Mascot Police Station, where he was charged with an outstanding arrest warrant for murder.
He is due to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today.
Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said the man’s extradition to Australia followed years of behind the scenes work by detectives.
“Concurrent to various court processes, investigators have continued to work tirelessly to ensure this man faced justice for his alleged involvement in Mr Dillon’s murder,” Det Supt Doherty said.
“Today’s result could not have been achieved without the ongoing support and assistance of our international law enforcement partner agencies – particularly the Royal Thai Police and Australian Federal Police.
“Bradley was a father who was senselessly murdered, and the simple fact is that if you engage in that sort of violent behaviour, police will always track you down and hold you to account,” he said.
The NSW Police Force wish to extend their sincere appreciation to all agencies who assisted Strike Force Ester detectives throughout the investigation, including:
