Man extradited to face historical child sex abuse charges – Auburn PAC

A man will face court today charged with alleged historical child sexual abuse offences after he was extradited from Queensland.

In August 2022, officers from Auburn Police Area Command commenced an investigation into alleged historical sexual abuse offences at a school in Sydney’s west.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators, with assistance from Queensland Police, arrested a 78-year-old man in Manunda, Queensland, about 6am on Wednesday (4 October 2023).

He was taken to Cairns Magistrates Court on a NSW arrest warrant, where NSW Police detectives sought and were granted his extradition to NSW.

He was escorted by investigators on a flight to Sydney yesterday (Thursday 5 October 2023), before he was taken to Mascot Police Station.

The man was charged with six counts of indecent assault on male.

Police will allege in court that the man, who was employed as a teacher, sexually abused a 13-year-old boy on several occasions at a school in Auburn between 1980 and 1981.

The man was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today (Friday 6 October 2023).

As investigations are continuing, anyone with information that can assist detectives is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
