Man in court after firearms, weapons and cash seized in Riverwood

A man will face court today charged after firearms, weapons and cash were seized from a home in Sydney’s south-west.

About 8.45pm on Sunday 17 November 2019, a man – armed with a firearm – and a woman allegedly forced their way into a home in Arthur Street, Bankstown.

The two allegedly threatened the occupants inside, a 31-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, before the man fled the area.

No one was injured.

Officers from Bankstown Police Area Command attended and arrested a 39-year-old woman.

She was taken to Bankstown Police Station, where she was charged with aggravated break and enter with intent.

The woman was refused bail and appeared at Bankstown Local Court on Monday 19 November 2019 and was formally granted bail to next appear before the same court on Wednesday 26 February 2020.

Following extensive inquiries, investigators arrested a 30-year-old man at a service station on Duncan Street, Punchbowl, about 11.30am yesterday (Wednesday 29 January 2020).

Shortly after, detectives, with assistance from officers from Bass Hill Region Enforcement Squad (RES), executed a search warrant at a home in Riverwood.

During a search of the property, officers located a loaded pistol, a loaded rifle, ammunition, a knife, speed cuffs, and $22,350 in cash.

These items were seized to undergo forensic examination.

The man was charged with 11 offences, including:

  • specially aggravated enter dwelling with intent – dangerous weapon,
  • face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • acquire prohibited firearm – subject prohibition order,
  • two counts of acquire etc ammunition subject to prohibition order,
  • possess unauthorised pistol,
  • possess unauthorised prohibited firearm,
  • not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm
  • deal with property proceeds of crime,
  • firearm found at premises – subject to prohibition order, and
  • learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester.

He was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 30 January 2020).
