Man in court after guns, ammunition found in Botany home, NSW

A man will appear in court charged after police seized five firearms and ammunition at a home in Sydney’s south last month.

About 1pm on Friday 26 June 2020, officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended a unit on Rochester Street, Botany, after reports guns and ammunition had been found.

Detectives established a crime scene and searched the home, seizing two rifles, shotgun, two handguns and a large amount of ammunition.

No one was home at the time and the items have undergone forensic examination.

Following extensive investigations and a public appeal, police stopped a vehicle on Earle Street, Cremorne, about 12.20pm yesterday (Monday 20 July 2020).

Police spoke to the driver, a 29-year-old man, before he was arrested and taken to Chatswood Police Station.

Shortly after, a search warrant was executed at a unit on Churchill Crescent, Cammeray, with several items were seized for forensic examination.

The man was charged with possess more than three unregistered firearms, possess unauthorised firearm (x4), not keep firearm safely- not prohibited firearm (x3), not keep firearm safely-pistol (x2), possess unauthorised pistol, and possess ammunition without holding licence/permit.

He was refused bail to appear at Manly Local Court today (Tuesday 21 July 2020).
