Man in court over armed robbery at Taree, NSW

A man will appear in court today over an alleged armed robbery in the state’s north that left a man with head injuries.

About 3.40pm on Tuesday 21 April 2020, a 25-year-old man attended the home of a 50-year-old man on Oxley Street, Taree.

Police will allege that during the visit the younger man allegedly struck the older man on the head with a shotgun, knocking him unconscious, before leaving the scene with cash.

The man suffered a fractured temporal lobe, a fractured left cheekbone, bleeding on the brain and a perforated eardrum.

The man was taken to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Yesterday (Friday 1 May 2020), officers from Manning-Great Lakes Police District were notified of the alleged incident and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, they arrested a 25-year-old man at a home on Steinmetz Close, Waitui, north of Taree, about 9pm (Friday 1 May 2020).

The man was taken to Taree Police Station, where he was charged with robbery while armed with dangerous weapon.

He was refused bail and is due to appear at Port Macquarie Local Court today (Saturday 2 May 2020
