Man in court over carjacking’s, armed robberies across Sydney, NSW

A man will face court today charged following an investigation into several alleged carjacking’s and armed robberies across Sydney’s Inner West and south over the past month.

In November 2020, officers attached to Eastern Beaches, Inner West, St George and Burwood Police Area Commands, with assistance from the State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crime Squad, commenced an investigation into a number of armed robberies in the Burwood, Kingsford and Beverly Hills areas.

The first incident occurred about 4am on Wednesday 11 November 2020, when two men approached a man as he was driving out of the carpark of his Burwood apartment complex.

The man was allegedly assaulted before the two men left in his silver Infinity Q30 sedan.

Just before 1pm the same day, the stolen Infinity was driven to a tobacconist on Anzac Parade, Kingsford, before three men entered the store and assaulted the owners. They stole cash and cigarettes.

About 3am the following day (Thursday 12 November 2020), three men – armed with a knife – entered a licensed venue on Anzac Parade, Kingsford, and assaulted a 32-year-old security guard, before stealing cash.

Investigators also conducted inquiries into two attempted carjacking’s at Zetland on Friday 20 November 2020, an armed robbery at a Glebe tobacconist on Saturday 21 November 2020 and a carjacking at Strathfield on Thursday (3 December 2020), where a man’s BMW 335i was stolen.

As part of ongoing inquiries, a 42-year-old man was arrested at Leichhardt on Thursday 12 November 2020 and charged with seven offences. He remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries and an appeal for public information, officers arrested a 36-year-old man on Wyndham Street, Alexandria, following a short foot pursuit from Waterloo about 8pm yesterday (Friday 4 December 2020).

Shortly after his arrest, a search warrant was executed at a unit on Cooper Street, Waterloo, where police seized a knife and other items relevant to the investigation.

The man was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with nine offences, including robbery armed with offensive weapon (x4), robbery in company (x3), take and drive conveyance without consent of owner and stealing.

He was refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 5 December 2020).
