Man lucky to escape injury in Thomastown

A drink driver is lucky to have escaped injury after his car was hit by a train in Thomastown early this morning.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Epping and Settlement roads following reports a car, that attempted to drive straight through the boom gates, had been hit by a passenger train about 3.10am.

The 36-year-old driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, along with the passengers from the train, were not injured.

The Doveton man was breath tested at the scene and returned a positive result before furnishing an evidentiary breath test reading of .113.

It is expected the man will be charged on summons with drink driving and traffic related offences.
