Man wanted for property and firearm offences – Operation Regional Mongoose

A man wanted on an outstanding warrant for property and firearm offences in the state’s north has been charged.

About 9pm yesterday (Thursday 18 April 2024), officers attached to Oxley Police District and Western Region Enforcement Squad attended a home on Wandobah Road, Gunnedah, to speak with a man.

Police were speaking with a female occupant, when they sighted the man run from the home into the backyard.

Officers commenced a foot pursuit, and a short time later following a violent struggle, the man was arrested after he bit a constable on the shoulder.

Police also seized a Honda motorbike.

The 25-year-old man was arrested and taken to Gunnedah Police Station.

Following inquiries, the outstanding warrant was executed for property offences, and he was also charged with:

  • assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm (x2)
  • hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty
  • use, supply stolen firearm or firearm part
  • possess unauthorised firearm, and
  • breach of bail.

The man was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court today (Friday 19 April 2024).
