Man, woman charged with assault police in Matraville

Police have charged a man and a woman with assaulting police and resisting arrest in Matraville yesterday.

About 10.40pm (Friday 21 February 2020), officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command attended a residence on Beauchamp Road, Matraville to arrest an 18-year-old man in relation to outstanding domestic violence issues.

During the execution of their duty, officers were allegedly assaulted by a 53-year-old woman and a 57-year-old man.

A dog at the residence allegedly also attacked one of the officers, a male Leading Senior Constable, leaving him with lacerations to his face and right forearm.

Officers arrested both the man and the woman. The 18-year-old man managed to escape.

The pair was taken to Maroubra Police Station.

The 53-year-old woman was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

The 57-year-old man was charged with assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm and resist or hinder police officer in the execution of duty.

They were both refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 22 February 2020).

The injured officer was treated for his injuries at Prince of Wales Hospital.
