Mark your calendar – it’s all child’s play for Children’s Week 2019

Are you ready for Ballarat’s biggest celebration for children?

Children’s Week is celebrated annually in October to acknowledge and celebrate the important role children play in our communities. This year, Children’s Week will be held from Friday 18 October to Sunday 27 October.

Children have a voice that deserves to be heard. The theme for 2019 Children’s Week is ”Children have the right to be healthy, safe and happy”.

Ballarat was recognised as a Child Friendly City in 2008 by UNICEF. Child Friendly Cities consider the needs of children in planning to improve outcomes for children and the community.

The City of Ballarat is committed to ensuring children’s voices are heard and the rights of children are a central consideration in public policies and decision-making.

The major highlight of this year’s Children’s Week in Ballarat is:

  •  The City of Ballarat’s Family Day at the Ballarat Wildlife Park on Saturday 26 October from 10am, with discounted entry to the park, children’s entertainment and face painting.

Other City of Ballarat events during Children’s Week include:

  • Eureka Centre – A Flag for our Future children’s activity on Saturday 19 October. Workshop involves creating a flag to represent the rights of every child.
  • Art Gallery of Ballarat – Camouflage Children’s Day on Saturday 19 October in partnership with the Ballarat International Foto Biennale.
  • Ballarat Libraries – Join the special Wriggle and Rhyme session with Compassionate Ballarat at Sebastopol Library on Monday 21 October; an author visit from Alicia Sometimes at Ballarat Library on Monday 21 October; and Books & Bunnies animal story time (in partnership with CAFS Care Farm) featuring a sensory experience with live bunnies.
  • Ballarat Aquatic and Lifestyle Centre – Come and try sessions for aqua playgroup, swim school, balance play, and BALC Children’s Centre farm activities on Tuesday 22 October and Thursday 24 October.

The City of Ballarat encourages and supports a range of community groups, organisations, cultural groups and education providers to host events and activities throughout Children’s Week.
