A strong, stable, well-capitalised banking sector is critical to New Zealand’s economy and enables us to continue to support our customers through good times and bad. We’re pleased to see the market study is bringing transparency and the opportunity to ensure New Zealanders continue to be well-served by their banks.
We appreciate the Commission’s focus on improving access to banking, and we welcome further collaboration across the industry and with government on the issue. We’re working hard in this area and published our Westpac NZ Access to Banking in Aotearoa Report in April, outlining the barriers that exist for some New Zealanders to obtaining a bank account.
