Masterplan to drive future of Macquarie Point

Michael Ferguson,Minister for State Growth

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is getting on with our plan to deliver a once-in-a-lifetime development at Macquarie Point for the Tasmanians of today and future generations.

A revised Masterplan was released for public comment in April 2019, and amendments are now with the Tasmanian Planning Commission awaiting final approval.

Developing one of the last remaining vacant urban locations in any of Australia’s capital cities is no small feat and we are committed to getting it right.

The concept of a multi-code facility has merit, however as the Chair of the Taskforce has said, it is an early stage concept, and importantly, our Masterplan will drive the future of the site.

The AFL Taskforce’s job is to think big, they are working on their report and the Government looks forward to receiving their views later this year.

At present, we have two great facilities for AFL and the Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to ensuring all of Tasmania is included in our bid for a team of our own, not just Hobart.
