Mirrabooka Detectives have charged a man in relation to an armed robbery incident in Maylands on Thursday 24 October 2024, and a subsequent bushfire in Nowergup on Tuesday 29 October 2024.
On Thursday 24 October 2024, it will be alleged two men attended a residence in Maylands to speak to a person known to them. During that incident, it will be alleged the male resident was assaulted with a baseball bat and had various property items stolen from his residence, including his vehicle.
As part of the ongoing investigation into this incident, about 1:20pm on Tuesday 29 October 2024, officers observed a person they wished to speak to regarding the incident driving a vehicle in Nowergup. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle on Hopkins Road, however it will be alleged the driver failed to stop and entered thick bushland, where the vehicle he was driving became bogged. It will be further alleged the man set fire to bushland as he fled from police.
About 3:40pm yesterday, Saturday 2 November 2024, a 39-year-old man was arrested in Southern Cross. He has since been charged by Mirrabooka Detectives with:
– Aggravated Armed Robbery
– Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm
– Steal Motor Vehicle
– Wilfully light or cause to be lit a fire likely to injure or damage.
He was refused bail and appeared in Perth Magistrates Court today, Sunday 3 November 2024, and is next due to appear in the same court on Friday 13 December 2024.
A second person alleged to be involved in the Maylands incident – a 33-year-old man – was previously charged in relation to the incident. He appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Saturday 26 October 2024, and is next due to appear in the same court on Friday 8 November 2024 on the following charges:
– Aggravated Armed Robbery
– Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm
– Steal Motor Vehicle
