Mayor’s Charity Golf Day tees off tomorrow

The 2022 Mayor’s Charity Golf Day will be held tomorrow (24 June), raising money for two charities – Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia and COUCH.

Around 120 players will tee-off in a four-player Ambrose at the picturesque Cairns Golf Club, Woree. All players tee-off at 9am.

Mayor Bob Manning said the charity golf day was a great way for the community to give back while having a bit of fun.

“Having someone you know dealing with a serious illness can be difficult, but these two wonderful charities help to lighten the load for families at a challenging time,” Cr Manning said.

“We’re aiming to raise over $40,000 to help these charities continue with their important work.”

Ronald McDonald House Charities North Australia provides family accommodation adjacent to major hospitals allowing families to be close to their seriously ill children.

Last year, the charity supported 734 Cairns families across five care programs and provided 3,033 nightly stays at no cost to families.

COUCH (Cairns Organisation United for Cancer Health) is a Cairns-based charity that has been raising funds and advocating for better cancer services for the people of Far North Queensland since 2006.

Cr Manning also thanked major supporters of the event Tropic Spirit and FGF, along with all the sponsors for their contribution.

“Without the generosity of local businesses and organisations, event such as this, which provide much needed funds to local causes, would not be as successful.”

New to this year’s Charity Golf Day will be the COUCH Races novelty fundraising event involving teams of four pushing an armchair over a predetermined course.
