Mayor welcomes news of a partial re-opening of Sovereign Hill

The City of Ballarat has congratulated Sovereign Hill on its announcement to re-open three days a week from the end of the month.

The award-winning tourist attraction will open its doors to pre-purchased ticket holders from June 27 with visitor numbers limited to 1000 per day, with heightened hygiene and safety measures in place.

Ballarat Mayor, Cr Ben Taylor said the tourism industry was the heart of Ballarat’s visitor economy and news of a partial re-opening of Ballarat’s largest attraction was a positive sign for the City and the staff of Sovereign Hill.

“Re-setting the go button is not easy for any business still facing restrictions.

“It is an extraordinary effort to re-open such a large outdoor museum, and I can only imagine the level of planning required by the Sovereign Hill Management and Board to make this happen,” he said.

Cr Taylor, who is a Patron of Sovereign Hill, said the City would continue to work with tourist operators in the recovery stage of COVID-19.
