At its Scheduled Meeting of Council on 26 May 2021, Council resolved that
- Council adopt the Mayoral Allowance of $62,884 plus 10% superannuation equivalent and the Councillor Allowance of $21,049 plus 10% superannuation for the purpose of community consultation.
- Council release the proposed Mayoral and Councillor allowance rates to the community for a 28 day period of consultation in accordance with Councils Community Engagement Policy and section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989.
The Victorian Government sets upper and lower limits for allowances paid to Councillors and Mayors and the above allowances fall within the range set for Category 1 councils. Murrindindi Shire Council is a Category 1 Council. Mayors are entitled to receive a higher allowance.
A person has a right under section 223 of the Local Government Act 1989 to make a submission to Council on Councillor Allowances. Submissions must be submitted by no later than 12 noon on Wednesday 23 June 2021. A person making a submission is entitled to request in the submission that the person wishes to appear in person or virtually, at the Scheduled Meeting of Council on 23 June 2021 at the Yea Council Chambers.
