Power and Water has switched on a new school program teaching Territory kids about power safety and smarter energy use – That’s My Power! This hands-on program helps students build safe habits and learn simple ways to save energy at home. The pilot program has been delivered across several trial sites across the Territory.

Territory students are powering up their knowledge on using less energy through That’s My Power!, a new Power and Water education program supported by the Finocchiaro CLP Government.

Minister for Essential Services, Steve Edgington, said Power and Water’s That’s My Power! program will help Territory students learn about safety around power, how to save power, and where we get power from.

“In our year of growth, certainty and security, we are expanding on the success of the 10-year That’s My Water!, program on water saving, launching a pilot program for That’s My Power,” Mr Edgington said.

“‘We’re expanding our educational programs for school-aged children to ensure future generations of Territorians have a solid understanding of the where, what and why of both power and water.

“This program will help give students the tools to understand their power use, make safer choices and reduce unnecessary consumption, and hopefully lead to lower power bills to help Territory families with cost-of-living pressures and help restore our Territory lifestyle,” Mr Edgington said.

That’s My Power! was developed from 5 key principles to teach students about power, including safety around power, how to save power, why we should save power, what power is and where we get power from.

Over recent months, a successful pilot program has been delivered in Galiwink’u, Laramba and Malak, with more school engagement sessions planned for Barunga, Engawala and Ali Curung. The full program will be rolled out in coming months.

The program combines hands-on learning, local input and creative storytelling to encourage safe behaviours and promote energy efficiency in homes and communities across the Northern Territory.
