MEGATRANS2022 To ‘Re-Imagine’ Freight Supply Chain

VIC Premier

Australia’s largest integrated conference and exhibition dedicated to the freight and logistics industry is now underway in Melbourne.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne today visited the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre to launch MEGATRANS2022, which brings together key members of the industry to improve and enhance supply chain capability.

The freight sector contributes $21 billion to the state’s economy each year and underpins 260,000 jobs that ensure producers, exporters and importers can get their products to local and global markets.

As industry recovers from the challenges created by the coronavirus pandemic, MEGATRANS2022 will help navigate the road ahead and propose solutions under this year’s event theme: ‘re-imagining the supply chain.’

A Container Storage Working Group chaired by Freight Victoria and involving key representatives from across the shipping industry, stevedores, transport operators and peak bodies was formed earlier this year by the Andrews Labor Government to help maintain the state’s freight advantage and keep the supply chain moving.

As a result, a trial of paperless truck entry to empty container parks has now also been launched, and an industry guide will soon be released to further aid in managing congestion in the container supply chain.

The aim of the guide is to alert industry to the signs of stress in the container supply chain and the potential actions it can take in response.

MEGATRANS2022 is being held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre until Friday 26 August.

As stated by Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne

“We’re continuing to work with the freight and logistics industry to keep the supply chain moving – not only now, but well into the future.”

“MEGATRANS2022 is a great way to hear from key members of the industry to understand issues and address them, so we can support our producers, freight operators and exporters and enhance supply chain capability.”
