Mine Shaft Rescue

Emergency services worked together to rescue a man and puppy from a mine shaft on the Yorke Peninsula this evening.

Just before 4pm Sunday 5 May police, CFS, SES and SAAS were called to ‘Hughes Engine House’ on Shepherdson Road after reports a puppy and man had fallen down a mine shaft. The adventurous pup had slid down the mine shaft about 5-8m. The owner had then attempted to rescue the dog and also become stuck.

STAR Group officers attended the scene from Adelaide belaying down to the man and dog safely bringing them to the surface just before 8pm. The man was taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police would like to thank the emergency services, volunteers and members of the public who assisted.
