Minister must apologise to Box Hill Hospital patients

Liberal Party Victoria

The Andrews Labor Government must apologise to patients who were let down last week at Box Hill Hospital.

Last week, an 83-year old stroke patient was forced to spend at least 17 hours in a tent outside Box Hill Hospital and was attended to by paramedics.

Furthermore, a teenage patient who had recently completed six months of chemotherapy treatment was forced to sleep on a row of chairs in a cold and draughty hospital corridor.

Yesterday the Minister for Health, Mary-Anne Thomas, stated she was satisfied that both these patients had received “appropriate care”.

Having to beg overworked staff to conduct a scan on a stroke patient isn’t appropriate care.

Being left in a tent outside a hospital for more than 17 hours isn’t appropriate care.

Having hospital facilities described as “Guantanamo Bay” by a paramedic isn’t appropriate care.

Being forced to sleep on chairs in a hospital corridor following six months of chemotherapy treatment isn’t appropriate care.

The Andrews Labor Government continues to put spin before patients and has no plan to fix the mess it has created.

The first priority of a Matt Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will be to fix the health crisis and return confidence in our hospital system.
