Mirri the Koala: December’s Koala of the Month

Australian Koala Foundation

In the spirit of the festive season, the Australian Koala Foundation (AKF) joyously declares Mirri as the Koala of the Month for December. This sweet and thoughtful Koala embodies the spirit of the holiday season with her adventurous nature and determined character, earning her the prestigious title.

Mirri, renowned for her quest for the juiciest gum leaves, is not just an extraordinary Koala; she is also a remarkable mother to Mozart, her joey. Her unique personality and joyful demeanour make her a perfect candidate for recognition during this special time of year.

Deborah Tabart OAM, Chair of the Australian Koala Foundation, highlights the significance of the Koala of the Month initiative during the festive period.

“Christmas is a time of joy, celebration, and giving. What better way to celebrate than by honouring a remarkable Koala like Mirri?” Tabart said.

Residing in Queensland’s Paradise Country, Mirri symbolises resilience and joy, offering hope for a brighter future for Koalas facing threats in the wild.

Lauren Mousley, Wildlife Curator at Paradise Country, expresses her excitement about Mirri’s recognition during the holiday season.

“Mirri is thriving as a new mum – her joey Mozart has inherited so many amazing qualities from her, including a very fluffy coat, adventurous spirit and laid-back personality.” Mousley said.

As families and friends unite during the Christmas season, the AKF invites individuals to make a positive impact on Koala conservation through the Adopt a Koala Program.

Mirri, with her endearing charm and the adorable Mozart by her side, is ready to capture the hearts of those who wish to contribute to the well-being of these iconic Australian animals.
