Monash University has been recognised across multiple disciplines in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), with 19 subjects in the global top 50 and four subjects making the top 10.
Leading Monash’s global performance were Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences (fifth), Mining and Mineral Engineering (sixth), Education (sixth) and Nursing – which surged six places to seventh to break into the global top 10 for the first time.
Monash earned the number one ranking in Australia across seven subjects: Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Mining and Mineral Engineering, Education, Business Administration, Management, Economics, and Finance.
There were also significant gains in Management (up 32 places to 15th), Public Health (up 12 places to 19th) and Human Biological Sciences (up 14 places to 26th).
The GRAS results build on Monash’s success across a number of key global rankings in 2026, including rising five places in the QS World University Rankings 2027 to 31st globally, and 38th in the US News and World Report 2026-2027 Best Global Universities Rankings.
The GRAS methodology evaluates universities based on research excellence. Indicators include the number of prestigious awards held by staff, high-quality research outputs, and international collaborations.
