Monash University welcomes ShanghaiRanking’s GRAS 2020 released today, with 13 of its subjects ranked in the global top 50 and four of which ranked number one in Australia.

The rankings provide comparative analysis on the performance of universities across 54 subjects and five broad subject areas: Natural Sciences; Engineering; Life Sciences; Medical Sciences; and Social Sciences.

The University’s best performance was in Metallurgical Engineering, retaining its rank of ninth in the world and first in Australia. Mining & Mineral Engineering jumped one place to also rank ninth globally and third nationally.

Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences closely followed, placing 11th globally and first nationally, and Nursing saw a significant rise in this year’s rankings, up eight places to 19th globally.

Monash University President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Margaret Gardner AC, said the results were evidence of the quality of the University’s diverse offerings in education and research.

“Excellence in research and education is at the heart of everything we do at Monash, and is realised through our strong global connections, enterprising and inclusive approach,” Professor Gardner said. “Our commitment to collaboration with industry, government, university and community partners across the world is key to our success.

“The latest GRAS results demonstrate the scale of our local and international reputation for high quality teaching and research across many disciplines, from Engineering and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, to Nursing.”
