More broken promises from Liberals on health cuts

Tasmanian Labor
  • Will Hodgman unable to keep his promise of no cuts to frontline health services
  • Government to cut $5.7 million from Ambulance Tasmania
  • Patients continue to die unnecessarily as a result of system failure and chronic under resourcing
  • Will Hodgman has broken his promise not to cut frontline health services.

In Parliament today Will Hodgman was unable to justify why Ambulance Tasmania staff have been told to brace for a $5.7 million cut to their budget while at the same being promised that no cuts to frontline services would be made.

Shadow Health Minister Sarah Lovell said a $5.7 million cut is equivalent to sacking 37 full time paramedics, at a time Tasmanians cannot cope with more cuts.

“Will Hodgman is risking lives and ignoring desperate pleas from hard-working medical professionals just to pay for his Government’s poor financial management,” Ms Lovell said.

“At the LGH an operating theatre used for trauma patients has been closed to save on staffing costs.

“The Tasmanian Health Service has reportedly told doctors at the state’s hospitals to slash elective surgery procedures by 15 percent.

“How Will Hodgman can possibly justify cuts to services that are already under extreme pressure is outrageous.

“These cuts are part of the Hodgman Health Razor Gang’s cruel $450 million slash and burn agenda.

“The Tasmanian hospital system is already at breaking point, with multiple reports warning that patients are dying unnecessarily as a result of system failure, yet Mr Hodgman is continually proving he simply doesn’t care.”
