The Carroll Labor Government is unlocking more homes and jobs across Victoria’s southwest.
Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny has approved the Greater Avalon Employment Precinct and the East of Aberline Precinct Structure Plan.
Greater Avalon Employment Precinct
Once complete, the precinct will support up to 8,000 new jobs across manufacturing, freight and logistics, and recycling and reuse industries.
It will support the continued growth of Avalon Airport – Melbourne’s second major airport – delivering new jobs and attracting business opportunities across the region.
The rezoned land will also provide strong environmental protections, including at the nearby internationally recognized Ramsar wetlands – with more than 600 acres of land safeguarded for conservation purposes.
East of Aberline Precinct Structure Plan
The Precinct Structure Plan will create 4,500 new homes and over 800 jobs in Warrnambool’s east.
The plan will support the community with new schools, community facilities, local parks and a sporting reserve
It will also protect local areas including Tozer Reserve and the Russells Creek corridor.
The precinct will include a new town centre, road upgrades, creek crossings and shared user paths to help residents access local jobs, schools, services and open space.
Only Labor is giving Victorians more choice about where they live and work.
Jess Wilson’s Liberal-One Nation Coalition will rip up our planning reforms – blocking young Victorians from entering the housing market.
As stated by Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny
“Only Labor is planning for Victoria’s future, Jess Wilsons’ Liberal-One Nation Coalition will rip up our reforms and build houses without the infrastructure that communities need.”
“These new precincts will deliver better road connections, walking and cycling links, and support future public transport options so residents can stay connected to jobs, schools and services.”
As stated by Member for Lara Ella George
“Labor is backing Geelong with 8,000 new jobs across Greater Avalon while also protecting the Ramsar Wetlands.”
As stated by Member for Western Victoria Jacinta Ermacora
“As more families move to Warrnambool, we are delivering the support the local community needs with new schools, sport ovals and jobs.”
