More positive ABS data

Peter Gutwein,Treasurer

Today’s very positive ABS payroll jobs data has once again confirmed our clear plan to support our economy and jobs throughout the pandemic is working.

The jobs data showed a 0.9 per cent increase in the first two weeks of February, higher than national growth and building on the increases seen last month.

Jobs are now 3.3 per cent higher than a year ago, which is the second highest growth rate in the country. At the same time, total wages paid in Tasmania have increased 7 per cent which again supports the increase in the numbers of people employed.

Our economy is performing strongly, with our export sector hitting new records and State Final Demand growing at the second-highest rate in the country over the year to the December 2021 quarter.

These positive results are testament to the strong plan we took to the election to secure Tasmania’s future, and we will continue doing all we can to keep this momentum going as we transition to living with COVID.
