More recycling support in WA through WasteSorted Schools grants

  • WasteSorted Schools grants to be distributed to 43 schools throughout WA as part of latest round
  • Successful schools to share in more than $122,500 in funding
  • More than $2.9 million to 571 schools since program’s creation by the Gallop Labor Government

The Cook Labor Government is continuing to help schools throughout Western Australia avoid and recover waste with more than $122,500 awarded to 43 schools as part of the latest round of WasteSorted Schools funding.

That program – which was introduced by the Gallop Labor Government in 2002 – provides funding for schools to help students avoid wastage and support recycling.

As part of the program’s latest round, successful schools will receive funding for a range of waste-sorting infrastructure, including recycling stations, Containers for Change collection bins, and organics recycling infrastructure such as worm farms and composts.

The next grant round will open on 28 January and close on 11 March, with grants of up to $5,500 per school available in two rounds per year.

As stated by Environment Minister Reece Whitby:

“It doesn’t take much for Western Australians to get involved in the circular economy, and this program is a great way to help schools teach students about how to recycle and avoid creating waste.

“I’d like to congratulate the schools that will receive funding as part of this round and encourage all schools throughout WA to get involved when funding next becomes available.”

As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

“Well done to all the schools involved and to the students for their commitment to recycling and reducing waste.

“We know young people are passionate about caring for our environment and this funding will have a decisive impact on supporting students’ sustainability goals.”
