More than 1350 emails sent to MPs urging action to stop proposed quarry

Mitchell Shire Council and the communities of Beveridge and Wallan are continuing their campaign to stop a quarry in their middle of their suburbs with more than 1350 emails sent to Members of Parliament urging them to take action.

The No Quarry Community Working Group met with Member for Northern Metropolitan Region Evan Mulholland on Wednesday to share their concerns about the impact this quarry will have on their health and wellbeing if it goes ahead.

Mr Mulholland committed to asking more questions in Parliament on behalf of the community group and to continue to support the advocacy efforts on this issue.

The decision on the quarry at 175 Northern Highway, Wallan, is in the hands of Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny. Council understands more than 1350 emails have been sent to Members of Parliament including the Planning Minister, the Premier Daniel Andrews, Member for Kalkallo Ros Spence, Member for Yan Yean Lauren Kathage, urging them to listen to the community and not let this quarry go ahead.

Community members are concerned the quarry will impact the local community for generations, bringing noise, dust, pollution, and congestion. They have invited MPs to meet with them in person and to see the location of the proposed quarry for themselves.

This quarry is not a done deal.
