The funding to support these groups comes from the Local Sport Grant Program, NSW Government’s Infrastrucutre Funds Grants Program and Local Sport Defribillator Grant Program.
Vikings Rugby Club will receive $150,000 in funding to install a new solar panel and battery system at their Vikings Oval home ground helping to reduce energy bills for the club and benefit the environment by reducing carbon emissions.
The Illawarra Cycle Club is set to receive a $13,845 grant to purchase of equipment to help increase participation in cycling of local multicultural and senior women.
Through the provision of adult tricycles, the Illawarra Cycle Club hopes to boost access to cycling, in a culturally safe and welcoming environment, whilst also improving basic cycling skills for women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and seniors. This will allow this demographic to maintain ongoing participation in cycling.
The other successful recipients include the Illawarra Rugby League Referees’ Association, which will receive $19,865 to purchase body cameras and communication equipment, to better support local referees.
While Port Kembla Sailing Club Co-Operative Ltd will receive $3759 to upgrade its fleet of Learn to Sail Boats, with the purchase of two Open Skiff sailing boats and Wiseman Park Wollongong City Bowling Club has been allocated $12,530 for a LED Lighting upgrade to improve safety and security around their greens.
IYC Sailing and Wollongong United Football clubs were successful in securing $4300 between then for new Automatic External Defribillators as part of the NSW Government’s Local Sport Defribillator Program. This year the grant program prioritised sporting organisations in the most disadvantaged areas of the state.

“Wollongong has a proud history of world-class sportspeople and these grants will help to provide more opportunities for our city to continue to produce sportspeople of similar calibre in the future.
“Not only does it help participants it also means that less time has to be put into fundraising activities by club administrators and more time can be spent enjoying being involved in sports and sporting groups.
“I congratulate all of the successful funding recipients and look forward to the amazing projects they will deliver locally.”
