More than $50,000 in RADF grants awarded to Townsville artists

Seven artists and groups across Townsville have had their Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants approved at this week’s Townsville City Council meeting.

RADF is a joint Arts Queensland and Townsville City Council program to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

Community and Cultural Development Committee chairperson Ann-Maree Greaney said 13 funding applications were made.

“Council received 13 applications for this RADF round, but after they were assessed by the RADF Interim Panel seven applications have been recommended for funding,” Cr Greaney said.

“The seven successful artists will receive a total of $50,621 and will have 12 months to complete their projects.”

Minister for the Arts Leeanne Enoch said that the long standing RADF program would help to boost Queensland’s plan for economic recovery, supporting artists and arts workers with employment opportunities through $4.2 million in funding for regional cultural projects.

“The Palaszczuk Government is investing $2.08 million in RADF for 2020-21 and an additional $2.13 million will be contributed by 59 councils across Queensland,” Minister Enoch said.

“Each year RADF showcases the extraordinary innovation of the arts and cultural sector in regional communities, delivers rich arts experiences and provides important professional opportunities for artists and arts workers.”

Cr Greaney said the successful projects would have a positive impact on the community.

“The successful applicants have some very exciting projects, including The Palm Creek Folk Festival, a production of Jersey Boys and a weekend workshop for the NQLD Recorder Society,” she said.

“These productions and events help foster the arts in our city as well as giving local creatives the opportunity to expand their horizons at home.”
