An Ivanhoe resident, who has volunteered with the Stroke Foundation for more than 15 years, has been recognised for her incredible generosity and dedication in the 2020 Stroke Foundation Stroke Awards.
Jan Lalor has been announced today as the winner of the Volunteer of the Year category.
Jan’s volunteer work has had a profound impact on the Stroke Foundation and stroke community. Over the years, she has performed many duties including packing and sending thousands of key resources to hospitals, doctors clinics, pharmacies, community groups, stroke survivors and the general public.
Jan was humbled to receive the honour.
“I have always enjoyed volunteering and I have learnt so much from spending time with people who have had strokes and become volunteer themselves,” Jan said.
The Stroke Foundation Stroke Awards recognise the unsung heroes of stoke – the stroke survivors, carers, volunteers, health professionals and researchers who continually go above and beyond to make a difference to help people with stroke and their families live well.
Stroke Foundation Chief Executive Officer Sharon McGowan congratulated Jan on being named as the Volunteer of the Year Award recipient.
“Jan is an asset to our organisation in so many ways. She is warm, kind-hearted and her commitment to our volunteer program is truly remarkable,” Ms McGowan said.
“We have almost 300 volunteers at Stroke Foundation who contributed more than 15,000 hours in 2019 alone and we could not do our important work without them.
“I thank Jan and her fellow volunteers, Stroke Awards nominees and winners for their incredible dedication and input to the Stroke Foundation’s mission to prevent stroke, save lives and enhance recovery.”
Almost 60 people were nominated for Stroke Award this year across six categories.
