Mornington Community Hub will again open its doors to the local community for a fun-filled Open Day on Tuesday 23 January 2024 from 11am to 3pm.

Now in its second year, this annual event is a great way to explore the amazing community groups, services and facilities that call the Hub home.

Mornington Community House – a purpose-built community space that provides opportunities for individuals and groups to connect, learn and contribute to the community. Our Community House offers a range of programs, including health and wellbeing classes (yoga, pilates, meditation and art therapy), support groups for people with Parkinson’s, Polio, Scleroderma and their carers, learning opportunities (technology, arts and craft, and mahjong) and other activities, like free weekly Chatty Café.

‘The Corner’ Youth Centre – a welcoming and safe space for young people aged 10 – 25 years to drop in, hang out with their peers and make new friends. The Corner has comfy lounges, free wi-fi, computers and loads of games, as well as offering a range of after-school and school holiday programs. Qualified youth workers are also available to provide information and support.

Mornington Men’s Shed – is committed to addressing men’s physical, emotional and social health and provides a dedicated place of learning for men of all ages. The Men’s Shed is also passionate about giving back to the local community.

RPP FM – a community radio station providing local news, music and lively discussions.

Peninsula Community Theatre – an affordable, multi-purpose venue that has become a leading centre for entertainment and events, including the Mornington Art Show (19 – 26 January 2024, 10am – 5pm daily).

Quotes attributable to Mayor Councillor Simon Brooks:

“Last year’s Open Day was very well received by residents and was the first time we could properly celebrate the opening of Mornington Community House.

“I encourage anyone who hasn’t visited the Mornington Community Hub to come along to the Open Day on 23 February 2024, even if it’s to just have a chat with some of the local volunteers and groups.”

Quotes attributable to Briars Ward Councillor Steve Holland, Anthony Marsh and Despi O’Connor:

“Open Day is a great way to explore the various programs and services our Community House has to offer and to check out the other facilities and services available at Mornington Community Hub.

“Our Community Houses provide up to 50 hours of programs and activities a week for Peninsula residents to enjoy. They play an important role in bringing people together to learn, connect and give back to their local area.

“Drop by to see what’s happening across the different facilities and services that make up the vibrant Mornington Community Hub – there’s bound to be an activity or program of interest to everyone!”
