Mornington Peninsula Shire Council has adopted its Food Safety Management Policy 2019 at its regular Council Meeting on Tuesday 13 August.

The Policy aims to address the manufacture, supply and sale of safe food on the Mornington Peninsula.

The adoption followed a community consultation that finished earlier this month and included community drop-in sessions at Mornington and Rosebud.

The Food Safety Management Policy 2019 will also:

  • Assist food businesses and community groups to serve safe, healthy food and protect customers with food allergies.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all food safety stakeholders.
  • Support the Best Bites program to promote healthy, accessible and sustainable food businesses.

Updating this Policy is part of Council’s commitment to support food businesses to serve safe and sustainable food, as set out in our Council Plan 2017-21.

Mornington Peninsula Shire Mayor Councillor David Gill said, “the adoption of the Food Safety Management Policy 2019 is a step forward for safe serving of food at all Peninsula businesses.”

“It will also strengthen support for the promotion of healthy food options available to the community,” he said.

“Council is pleased to be delivering on our commitment to support food businesses to serve safe and sustainable food.”
