The Morrison Government has completed its rollout of a national network of ten Industry Training Hubs with the launch of the latest hub in Alice Springs.
Funded through a $50.6 million investment, Industry Training Hubs are a key part of the Morrison Government’s commitment to better connect local industry with local schools in areas of high youth unemployment. The new Industry Training Hub based in Alice Springs will help connect the Territory’s senior secondary students to in-demand careers.
To date, Industry Training Hubs have been delivered in Burnie (Tas), Townsville (Qld), Maryborough (Qld), Port Pirie (SA), Shepparton (Vic), Armadale (WA), Gosford (NSW), Wanneroo (WA) and Grafton (NSW).
The Industry Training Hubs have connected hundreds of local stakeholders since its establishment. In partnership with local steering groups career facilitators have worked to develop projects across the country to meet local needs. This has seen students gain hands on experience in a range of diverse skills projects including shearing, civil construction and building and the renewable energy sector.
Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, Stuart Robert, said the national network of Industry Training Hubs are part of the Morrison Government’s focus on helping young Australians to build skills for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
‘As we set course to recover from COVID-19 we need a pipeline of skilled workers in a range of critical industries, and initiatives such as the Industry Training Hubs help break down local barriers and get local kids into local jobs,’ Minister Robert said.
‘Industry Training Hubs-delivered right across Australia-will strengthen partnerships between local employers, industries and schools to help students focus on developing skills for occupations most relevant to their region.
‘We want to see local kids get into local jobs, which is why the Morrison Government is investing a record $6.4 billion in skills and training, giving the next generation their shot to get into in-demand, high-quality jobs.’
