Multimillion-dollar Bunbury Hospital redevelopment reaches milestone

  • Bunbury Regional Hospital redevelopment reaches important step
  • Request for proposal (RFP) released to market
  • $277.9 million project to deliver additional capacity, expanded emergency department, new maternity, birthing and neonatal services and mental health facilities

The Cook Government’s major project to transform Bunbury Regional Hospital has hit a new milestone with the request for proposal released to market.

This follows an expression of interest process which concluded in mid-March 2023.

The project will deliver additional beds, an expanded emergency department, increased operating theatre capacity, new maternity, birthing and neonatal services, new clinical equipment and new emergency access and mental health facilities.

It will also include WA’s first regional teaching, training and research centre, and a boost to the hospital’s digital capability.

The RFP process provides an opportunity for prospective managing contractors to submit detailed information, including pricing and key milestone dates, to deliver the project.

The successful managing contractor is expected to be appointed from this process.

The project is expected to bring opportunities for local suppliers and contractors once the managing contractor has been appointed.

As stated by Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson:

“This is an important investment to transform Bunbury Regional Hospital into a modern healthcare facility to meet the needs of local communities, as well as the many people who travel to the South West to holiday.

“It is an important healthcare facility for the whole region, and the redevelopment will mean it is well-placed to deliver services that meet community needs into the future.”

As stated by Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

“This redevelopment will be the biggest undertaken in regional Western Australia and will include WA’s first regional teaching, training and research centre.

“It will significantly increase the capacity at Bunbury Regional Hospital and I look forward to seeing the project continue to progress.”
