Artist Anu Patel has finished a 40m long mural in a laneway opposite the new Chelsea Station as part of works to remove five dangerous and congested level crossings, build four new road bridges and revitalise the local area.
Art Pass, Reimagined was inspired by feedback from locals about what they love about Chelsea and many residents helped to paint the mural along the wall of 1/423 Nepean Highway.

The new public artwork pays homage to Anu Patel’s original mural in the pedestrian underpass of the former Chelsea Station which was removed to create the new station precinct.
The artist held several workshops with children from Chelsea, St Joseph’s and Bonbeach primary schools during the development of the mural, which was funded by the Level Crossing Removal Project in partnership with Kingston City Council.

‘Amazingly we’ve had some people who were involved in the project 10 years ago who are also part of the project this time — and some new faces!’ Ms Patel said.
The new mural is a landmark for Chelsea and Ms Patel hopes it will put the suburb on Melbourne’s street art map.
‘A guy who comes in from Frankston, he does tours of the laneways of Frankston, and he’s really excited about bringing new people to see the work,’ Ms Patel said.

Our crews are continuing to add the finishing touches to the new station precincts at Edithvale, Chelsea and Bonbeach including walking and cycle paths —to create 11km of shared user path between Edithvale and Frankston — station car parks and landscaping.
Trains began stopping at the new stations in November 2021 under a $4 billion-dollar Victorian Government investment in the Frankston Line to remove 20 dangerous and congested level crossings and build 13 new stations by 2025.
