Mural For Wells Street Park

Artist Peter Daverington’s mural design creates a trompe l’oeil effect incorporating a finely detailed landscape in the romantic tradition with a geometric framework giving the illusion of three panels.

Peter Daverington’s work has been described as ‘landscapes that art history can live in’ where the visuality of the past reaches out into our contemporary moment.

A graffiti artist turned fine art painter, Daverington recreates disparate images, styles, and references to form spectacular maximalist compositions which seamlessly integrate idiosyncratic elements.

The design responds to feedback from the community on the park as a place of refuge, relaxation, and peacefulness away from busy Church Street.

The artist and mural design were selected via an Expression of Interest process with input from members of the Bayside Arts & Gallery Advisory Committee.

The artist will begin work in mid-late April 2024.
