Murder, attempt murder charges over Wyong shooting, NSW

A man has been charged with 13 offences – including murder and shooting with intent to murder – after one man died and three people were injured on the state’s Central Coast last night.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District were called to Cutler Drive, Wyong, about 6pm (Tuesday 17 March 2020), responding to reports of a disturbance.

They established a perimeter and called for assistance from the Tactical Operations Unit and Negotiators, after a 40-year-old man allegedly began firing shots.

A 20-year-old man died while two others, a 45-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. A male police officer sustained a back injury while attempting to assist the 20-year-old man.

Just over an hour later, the man was arrested and taken to Wyong Police Station. He’s now been charged with 13 offences:

  • Murder
  • Shoot with intent to murder (two counts)
  • Fire firearm at dwelling-house with disregard for safety (seven counts)
  • Possess shortened firearm (not pistol) without authority
  • Possess unregistered firearm
  • Damage property by fire/explosion.

The man was refused bail to appear by AVL in Wyong Local Court today (Wednesday 18 March 2020).

Local police are being assisted by detectives from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.
