It’s been 50 years since man first landed on the moon and that makes for a particularly out of this world National Science Week.
Orange Mayor Reg Kidd said Orange Regional Museum had exciting activities on offer for this year’s science week for kids of all ages.
“Orange Regional Museum is running some special programs to celebrate National Science Week 2019,” Cr Kidd.
“These programs all have a space theme, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing this year.
“These activities are free, fun and I’ll bet the whole family will go home knowing something they didn’t know before.”
Science Week at Orange Regional Museum begins Friday August 9 with a community screening of the SCINEMA International Science Film Festival.
Orange City Council’s Services Policy Committee Chair Stephen Nugent said the films investigate all of the important questions about space.
“The museum will be showing a playlist of award-winning films, exploring the big questions like ‘Where does space begin?’ and ‘What happens when satellites collide?,” Cr Nugent said.
“During Science Week, August 12 to 16, the museum is continuing its popular Science at the Museum education program for school groups.
“Based on this year’s national science week theme ‘Destination Moon’, school groups can visit the Museum and do an interactive space-themed activities tailored to their year group, watch a short film about space and also visit the Museum’s exhibition All in a Day’s Work.
“Our school-group activities at the museum are increasingly popular and it’s great to see the younger generation taking full advantage of this wonderful community facility.”

SCINEMA International Science Film Festival is presented by Australia’s Science Channel.
As for the school group sessions, there are 10 available, a morning and afternoon session on each weekday – during National Science Week (12-16 August).
Sessions are free and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
