National Careers Week shines a light on career development opportunities

The power of career development and the benefits it has on our lives and the economy will be celebrated as part of National Careers Week, held between 17-23 May.

Organised by the Career Industry Council of Australia (CICA) in partnership with the National Careers Institute (NCI), National Careers Week recognises the journey of career development and the dedication of practitioners, with engaging events to be held across the country.

Minister for Employment, Workforce, Skills, Small and Family Business, the Stuart Robert, said there has never been a better time to consider where your future career lies.

‘Your career is more than a job. It is the sum of education, training and work experience,’ Minister Robert said.

‘As we continue with our economic recovery, and with businesses increasingly looking for quality staff, it’s a golden opportunity for those wanting to enter the workforce or forge a new career path.

‘We understand it can be daunting taking that first step towards a new career, which is why the Australian Government provides career advice and information about resilient occupations and jobs in demand, as well as plenty of support along the way.’

Assistant Minister for Youth and Employment Services, Luke Howarth, said that Vocational Education and Training (VET) equips people with job-ready skills to prepare them for their future career.

‘It’s never too early or late to start thinking about your career, and what you want to do,’ Assistant Minister Howarth said.

‘VET pathways are flexible, and a great way to secure your future with skills and qualifications recognised nationally.’

The Morrison Government is investing $7.6 million to expand NCI services as part of the 21-22 Budget, as well as expanding the Mid-Career Checkpoint and Career Revive programs.

The $1 billion JobTrainer Fund will be expanded to continue the delivery of low fee or free training in areas of skills need, alongside the extension of the Boosting Apprenticeship Commencements wage subsidy and an extra $481 million to expand Transition to Work from July 2022, a program helping young Australians enter the workforce.
