Applications for the NT Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Youth Grants Program 2026/27 open today, aiming to minimise harm associated with the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs through a range of prevention, education and community action initiatives.
Minister for Health Steve Edgington said the AOD Youth Grants Program delivers on the Finocchiaro CLP Government’s commitment to reinstate funding for activities aimed at reducing the impact of youth substance misuse.
“The AOD Youth Grants Program has delivered project funding for the past ten years to reduce harms associated with alcohol and other drugs,” Minister Edgington said.
“This will be the eleventh year, with a focus on building strength and resilience in young people by promoting healthy choices, improving mental health, social and emotional wellbeing, and encouraging healing and connection to culture and community.”
The focus of the grants is community initiatives that support young people to be healthy, connected, and resilient through activities that strengthen wellbeing, cultural identity, leadership and protective factors against alcohol and other drug-related harm.
Organisations can apply for grants for:
· Awareness raising and education projects for young people that promote healthy choices and activities.
· Collaborative community projects that provide opportunities for young people to prevent the misuse of alcohol and other drugs.
· Sporting, cultural and community events that enhance young people’s level of connectedness and build resilience.
· Activities that support young people to develop skills and learn.
· Community-led wellbeing, cultural, mentoring and leadership activities that strengthen resilience and protective factors in young people.
Individual grants of up to $20,000 are available for community projects or initiatives, with a total of $271,000 available to be awarded in the 2026/27 funding round.
Since its inception, the NT AOD Youth Grants Program has provided $2.63 million to 153 projects to help minimise harm associated with the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs across the Territory.
All NT based community groups, non-government organisations, local councils, sole traders and partnerships are eligible to apply.
Grants will be provided by the Northern Territory Government through NT Health’s Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs (MHAOD) Branch.
