National Futsal Championships: Day 4 Wrap

Both glory and heartbreak were on show in Parkville today as some booked a coveted spot in tomorrow’s Grand Finals series while others fell at the final hurdle. After four days of intense futsal action the stage is now set for a grand finale.

Football QLD’s dominance in the AWD All Abilities league was once again on display, defeating Football SA 8-1 in the first semi-final. The Queenslanders have been imperious so far, winning all four group games prior to today’s performance. In the other semi, Football NSW Thunder recorded a dramatic 7-6 win against Football Victoria to punch a ticket to the grand final When the teams last played on Tuesday Queensland were victorious 7-1.

Football Victoria were the big winners in today’s Under 12 Boys finals series, winning 8-2 against Capital Football and 8-0 against Football SA to progress to tomorrow’s Grand Final. Their opponents Football QLD head into the final game of the tournament on a massive high having booked their spot with a 6-5 win against NSW Thunder.

In the Under 13 Boys NSW Metro fought past a gallant Goldfields WA 5-2 while Football QLD showed a ruthless edge against Football Victoria winning 10-1. When the two sides met in the group stages Queensland won comfortably but since then the sky blues have shown consistent improvement, setting up what should be a great contest.

The Under 13 Girls competition has been hard fought all the way through and the semi-finals were no exception. Football Victoria downed NSW Thunder 2-0 and Football QLD beat Goldfields WA 3-1 to progress to tomorrow’s final.

Capital Football prevailed in one of today’s best encounters, defeating NSW Thunder 3-2 in the Under 14 Boys semi-final. Football QLD proved too strong for Football SA in the other matchup, winning 5-1.

Football Victoria’s Under 15 Girls defeated Capital Football 10-0 in the quarter final before downing NSW Thunder 7-4 win in a fiery encounter. The Vics will meet NSW Country in the final showdown, after 5-0 and 5-3 wins against Goldfields WA and Football QLD respectively.

The Under 15 Boys has provided viewers some spectacular entertainment since Monday and today did not disappoint. Football Victoria proved too strong for Football SA, winning 4-1 before Football QLD held out against Football NSW 4-3 in a thriller.

In the Under 16s the NSW Country boys downed their metro counterparts 3-1 today and will meet Football QLD in the final, who defeated Football SA 4-2.

The semi-finals for Under 17 Girls are still to take place but the prospect of an all NSW final looms after some high scoring games in today’s quarters.

NSW Thunder are set to take on Football QLD in the morning with NSW Lightning simultaneously versing Capital Football. It’s all on the line for the final four teams with the afternoon Grand Final spots up for grabs.

It was a goal fest in the Boy’s Youth division with Capital Football proving too strong for Goldfields WA, winning 10-7 and NSW Metro beating Football QLD 4-2.

The Open Men’s proved similarly entertaining, with NSW Thunder showcasing their best form in 9-1 win against Football QLD. The Thunder will meet Football Victoria in one of tomorrow’s showpiece fixtures. The Victorian’s fought through a tough Football West side, winning 5-1.

Football NSW Thunder and Capital Football will clash in the Women’s Open division following a tense finals series to end Matchday 4. The Thunder scraped by Football Victoria 1-0 in a tense matchup while Capital proved too strong for a brave Football QLD outfit, running out 3-1 winners.

When the sides met in the group stages the Thunder took the spoils with a dramatic 4-3 win, but with not much between the sides this promises to deliver.
