NCC Changes Coming Into Effect 1 May 2024

The National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 has been adopted by states and territories in a staggered approach from 1 May 2023.

The next stage will come into effect on 1 May 2024 for the following provisions:

  • New livable housing requirements
  • Updated energy efficiency and condensation mitigation requirements

These provisions will help practitioners provide Victoria with its housing needs in the years to come, with many benefits for consumers, such as removing barriers to the installation of efficient electric hot water systems and providing more housing options for people with physical disabilities.

Ahead of this date, it is encouraged that practitioners familiarise themselves with these changes by reviewing the Australian Building Codes Board’s (ABCB) webinar series and resources.

The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) has produced a series of webinars, through our Practitioner Education Series, to assist practitioners with this transition. The following recordings of past webinars relate to the upcoming changes:

If you have technical enquiries about these changes, please submit them to the VBA’s Technical and Regulation team, via the form on our NCC 2022 webpage.

ABCB Forums

Please also be aware that a new series of forums hosted by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) will provide Victorian practitioners with the opportunity to influence NCC 2025. The first event will be held from 2 – 4pm on Thursday 4 April 2024.
