Neon Runners Set To Light Up Night

Orange City Council’s Youth Action Council has teamed up with the Orange Runners Club to host a family friendly event, encouraging both the young and old to get out an about for a few hours of fun on Saturday evening.

Over 200 people have already registered for the Neon Run event, designed to encourage the residents of Orange to get out of the house and participate in physical exercise, but in a not so typical way.

Participants in the fun run will come dressed in their favourite 80’s gear, all while being wrapped in glow sticks. Elephant Park, on Woodward Road, will transform into a sea of neon, as families run around the vicinity while listening to music played by a DJ.

A sausage sizzle is available on the night, as well as a movie screened in the park for any younger attendees. Minute-to-win-it station will also be setup, seeing people participate in a range of different activities on the outdoor exercise equipment.

Orange Mayor, Cr Reg Kidd says “It’s wonderful to see an initiative such as this take place to encourage healthy lifestyle choices, all while having fun.”

Prizes are up for grabs for best dressed, most laps completed in two hours and victors of the minute-to-win stations.

Orange City Council’s Services Policy Committee chair Cr Stephen Nugent says “The idea of the night is simply for people to come dressed up, participate in a range of different activities, and have fun.”

Registration is free, and can be done so both before the event and on the night at 6pm, before runners can take off at 6:30pm.
