Nillumbik Council is hosting its first Home-based Business Expo in an effort to facilitate networking opportunities for local home-based business operators, as well as showcase local products and services to the community.

More than two thirds of businesses registered in Nillumbik are home-based representing a broad range of industries including various trades, consulting, designers, health & wellbeing, book keeping, and other financial services. Data sourced from the Australian Business Register demonstrates strong growth in these types of businesses, particularly in the last two years.

On Wednesday 16 November at the Eltham Community and Reception Centre Nillumbik home-based business owners are invited to attend a free afternoon of business learning targeted specifically to those operating from their home.

The program consists of:

  • 1.30pm – 2.30pm – Panel of financial specialists brought to you by Bendigo Bank
  • 2.00pm – 3.30pm – Social media and marketing session with Kirri Romero from local business, The Online Fix
  • 3.30pm – 4.00pm – Panel of local business owners – Kirri Romeo from The Online Fix, Phil Marendez from Marendaz Accounting and Chanmali Tregambe from Nillumbik Estate Wine representing the Nillumbik Tourism and Business Association.

Then, from 5pm – 9pm doors open to the public to join us at the Eltham Community and Reception Centre for the home-based business expo.

Entry is free and there will be a wide variety of stallholders exhibiting and selling their products and services. The first 200 will received a free limited edition ‘Shop in Our Shire’ reusable shopping bag.

Visitors can also enjoy live music from local jazz duo Kimba & Ryan.

Nillumbik Mayor, Frances Eyre said home-based businesses have always been well represented in Nillumbik where individuals can enjoy a wonderful work/life balance within our beautiful Shire.

“During the COVID19 pandemic, many business owners were forced to run their business from home. This has worked well for many and it often means lower costs, lower overheads. We’ve seen the pursuit of operating a business from home in Nillumbik become even more popular,” Councillor Eyre said.

“I encourage you to bring your friends and family, meet some fantastic local businesses you may not see on the main street, and support local business. It’s also a great opportunity to get a jump on shopping for the festive season!”
