New Animal Care and Protection Amendment Bill

AgForce has welcomed most of the new Animal Care and Protection Amendment Bill, passed by Parliament on Friday 2 December 2022.

The result of five years of hard work by AgForce, the bill creates the opportunity for the cattle industry to develop and implement accreditation schemes to certify lay spayers and lay pregnancy testers.

We have long been at the forefront of developing the accreditation for lay spayers, which will launch soon. This will be closely followed by our scheme to certify lay pregnancy testers.

The outcome represents another example of how our long form advocacy delivers pathways for critical skills and professional development for industry.

AgForce was also forthright in opposing elements of the bill, including the prohibition of the toxin CSSP for feral pig control and the aggravated offence provision inclusions. Unfortunately these elements were not changed before the bill was passed.

Going forward, we will continue to advocate strongly on industries behalf on these important issues.
