The Albanese Labor Government is expanding the expertise of Wine Australia’s leadership, with two new Directors appointed to the Wine Australia board.
Mr Darryn Hakof and Mr Stephen Strachan have been appointed for three-year terms and will help strengthen Wine Australia’s role in supporting Australia’s wine sector to respond to emerging opportunities and challenges across domestic and international markets.
The appointments come at a time when Australia’s wine sector is continuing to navigate global oversupply, changing consumer preferences and shifting international market conditions.
These appointments will help ensure Wine Australia has the leadership and expertise needed to support industry through this period of transition and opportunity.
Mr Stephen Strachan brings extensive industry knowledge, a practical understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Australian wine producers, and a strong track record of collaboration across industry and government.
Mr Darryn Hakof brings significant international and commercial expertise, including experience in market development, market access and global industry engagement, further enhancing the board’s strategic outlook and global industry connections.
The new directors build on the board’s existing capability by adding complementary industry expertise, commercial experience and governance skills.
Expanding the board from five to seven members also brings Wine Australia into line with other Research and Development Corporations, strengthening its capacity, governance and industry expertise at a time of significant change for Australia’s wine sector.
Dr Michele Allan will continue as Acting Chair, while recruitment of a permanent Chair is finalised.
